Studies of Antimutagenic Effects of Vitamins A and C in Humans

Abstract: We studied antimutagenic effects of vitamins A and C (in recommended daily doses for 30 days) and their effects on the kinetics of human buccal epitheliocytes. Buccal swab specimens were collected in 29 students before and after vitamin course. The cytogenetic parameters (cells with micronuclei and protrusions) and parameters of proliferation (binuclear cells and cells with double nuclei) and nucleus destruction (karyopyknosis, karyorrhexis, karyolysis, etc.) were analyzed. The levels of cells with micronuclei… Show more

“…Similar scenarios have also been observed for deficiencies in vitamin B-12, riboflavin, vitamin A, and minerals such as calcium and zinc (99). Conversely, supplementation with folic acid (97, 100-108), riboflavin, pantothenic acid, biotin (4), cobalamin (93,103), vitamin C (109)(110)(111)(112)(113)(114)(115), vitamin E (114), and vitamin A and its derivatives (107,112) was associated with decreased genotoxic damage and micronucleus reduction (4). Much research has been conducted to show the effects of folic acid supplementation and folate status on reduced micronucleus frequency.…”

“…Persimmon fruits contain vitamins C and B, trace elements zinc, copper, iron, chromium, etc. These biogenic compounds and che mical elements, as well as some other compounds (some polypeptides) can have antimutagenic effect [1,5] mainly due to their antioxidant properties [10,11]. It is these substances in complex form that provide the antimutagenic activity of the composition of these extracts.…”

“…Abasova et al 30 relataram, em recente publicação, os efeitos antimutagênicos da suplementação vitamínica, principalmente A e C, em humanos. Em nossa casuística, observamos que entre os que faziam uso de suplementação vitamínica, houve redução da ocorrência de picnose.…”
