Students’ Truth-Seeking Behaviour in Solving Problems with No Specified Universal Set Given

Abstract: The truth-seeking behaviour of students is the main predictor of someone having critical thinking behaviour. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research related to students' seeking behaviour in responding to mathematical problems. The purpose of this study was to describe the truth-seeking behaviour of students in working on problems with an unknown universe based on the IDEAL problem-solving model. This research was a qualitative descriptive study, with the stages were (1) determining the research subject… Show more

“…Based on the ideal model, students carry out the stages contained in the ideal model. Even though they do not use all the existing stages, students tend not to provide conclusions to the objectives after working on the question (Rahmawati et al, 2021).…”

“…The Ideal Model is a stage of problem-solving developed by John D. Bransford and Barry S. Stein in their book entitled " The Ideal Problem Solver " (Nayazik, 2017). The name Ideal is an acronym for problem-solving steps, namely Identify problems and opportunities (identify problems and opportunities) (Mulyono, 2017), Define goals (define goals) (Yuntiaji, 2019), Explore possible strategies (explore strategies) (Rahmawati et al, 2021), Anticipate outcomes and Act (anticipate outcomes and act), and look back and Learn (looking back) (Bransford & Stein, 1993).…”
