English is recognized as one of the most important languages in the world as it plays a significant role in business, education, and information technology. Therefore, developing a strong command of the English language is essential. However, motivating students and changing their attitude towards learning English remains a challenge. This study aims to investigate the attitude and motivation of secondary school students in learning English at a secondary school located in Kuala Lumpur. Data were obtained from 37 Form 4 secondary school students using modified version of AMTB (Attitude and Motivation Test Battery) questionnaire. The overall findings revealed that the majority of students showed high levels of motivation in their language learning endeavors and were predominantly driven by both instrumental and integrative factors. Understanding these motivational factors enables educators to design language learning programs that foster authentic language use, cultural exchange, and students' overall language proficiency.

This study sought to investigate students’ perceptions of classroom activities and their motivation levels in learning an English subject. The study also examined the affiliation between classroom activities and student motivation. The survey questionnaires were employed to collect the data from 120 upper secondary graders studying at a public secondary school in Cambodia. Social Science Version 16.0 (SPSS 16.0) was utilized to analyze. Descriptive statistics and Pear Product Moment Correlation were performed. The results revealed that EFL teachers frequently employed ‘Mechanics’ and ‘Exclusive Use of Language’ in their teaching. The results apropos of student motivation indicated that students had a higher level of motivation in ‘Confidence’, and ‘Motivation about Language’ and the lowest level in ‘Motivation about Class’. The result also revealed that ‘Fun’ positively correlates with ‘Confidence’ and ‘Motivation about Class’. Conversely, ‘Mechanics’ is negatively correlated with ‘Motivation about Class’. Therefore, the study argued that the teachers less frequently employed ‘Fun’ activities that could boost student motivation. In contrast, ‘The teachers commonly practiced mechanics’ activities that could decrease student motivation. In this sense, the study suggested that teachers maximize ‘Fun’ activities and minimize ‘Mechanics’ activities. However, because of the weak and moderate correlation between classroom activities and students’ motivation, the level of student motivation was not mostly determined by classroom activities. Thus, scrutiny of other factors enhancing the level of student motivation could be a topic for future study.

This study aims to determine the effect of interest in learning and self-discipline on English learning achievement of second semester students of the Yogyakarta Administrative Management Academy (AMAYO). Research hypotheses: 1) It is suspected that there is a significant effect of interest in learning on learning achievement in English. 2) it is suspected that there is a significant effect of self-discipline on learning achievement in English. 3) it is suspected that there is a significant influence of interest in learning and self-discipline simultaneously on achievement in learning English. The research was conducted by survey method. The population is second semester AMAYO students for the 2021/2022 academic year with a sample size of 77 students. By testing using multiple linear regression techniques. The results of hypothesis testing obtained the following conclusions: 1) There is a significant effect of interest in learning on English learning achievement of AMAYO students, that tcount (5.426) > ttable (1.6654); 2) There is a significant effect of self-discipline on English learning achievement of AMAYO students, that tcount (5,633) > ttable (1,6654); and 3) There is a significant effect of simultaneous interest in learning and self-discipline on AMAYO students' learning achievement in English, that Fcount (82,125) > ftable (3.158). The regression equation obtained is as follows Y = 2,935 + 0,579X1 + 0,627X2.
