“…The poly-P in the raw sludge phase was long-chain (about 42) by 31 P-NMR spectra, which was reduced during the anaerobic treatment. The similar result was reported by Lichko et al 43 The mean chain length of poly-P was calculated as eqn (7). The chain length of poly-P at moderate temperatures was much shorter than that at a lower temperature.…”

“…Compared with chemical treatments, anaerobic phosphorus release from sewage sludge is veried as a sustainable and efficient P recovery method because of the avoidance of the eutrophication and algal bloom problems. 7 The fraction of phosphorus in the sludge is important as not all kinds of phosphorus fraction exhibit bio-availability. Therefore, the phosphorus fraction will be selected to evaluate the performance of the phosphorus release behavior rather than total phosphorus (TP) concentration.…”

“…Therefore, Acinetobacter sp. are more suitable than A. niger in OP pollutant remediation under neutral conditions, as these conditions favour P precipitation 56 .…”

“…Therefore, PSB could be a potential sustainable “biomaterial” in decomposing OP. Previous studies have proposed that there were several eco-friendly methods to remove the inorganic P by adding Mg 2+ and Ca 2+ to form struvite and hydroxylapatite 13,56 . A combination of PSB and CaCl 2 successfully decreased the risk of eutrophication caused by OP in water bodies, and the OP degradation efficiency was about 16.5%, which is comparable to that of PC and PEC techniques 9 .…”

“…Precipitation of struvite from POME was considered as a rare subject in palm oil milling industry with only few fundamental research studies explored on struvite formation from POME ( Tadza et al., 2015 ; Salsabili et al., 2016 ). Other wastewater treatment industries such as swine, sewerage as well as cattle manure ( Jordaan et al., 2010 ; Zeng et al., 2018 ; Rico 2011 ) have gone far with struvite precipitation as one of the methods to recover nutrients from waste stream. For example, in swine farming industry, struvite precipitation of its wastewater was explored with the purpose to remove ammonia nitrogen and simultaneously recover phosphate from its wastewater stream ( Huang et al., 2016 ) ( Taddeo et al., 2016 ).…”
