Structure of the Tectonic Front of the Western Alps: Control of Fluid Pressure and Halite Occurrence on the Decollement Processes

Abstract: Despite a long history of geological studies, the deep structure of the tectonic front of the Western Alps (Figures 1 and 2) remains poorly known, mainly because of the lack of available published seismic reflection studies and because of only few wells available providing deep calibration. The published data which offers a seismic information along a full transect across the foreland fold-and-thrust belt of the western Alps (including Jura Mountains) was provided by the research program ECORS-ALP of deep seis… Show more

“…Seismic profiles (Fig. 1B) that partially penetrate the front of the subalpine chains are located on the western edge of the Vercors and Chartreuse massifs (91CHA1-2, 91VER1, 82SE01-91VER2, Deville et al, 1992;Deville, 2021) and on the western edge of the Bauges and Bornes massifs (88SV01, 88SV02-HR528, 88SV03, 88SV05, 88SV06, 88SV07-HR535; Gorin et al, 1993;Signer and Gorin, 1995;Beck et al, 1998; available at BRGM) and were reinterpreted by using the stratigraphic column presented in Figure 1 and by integrating new field data. Further information has been obtained from well-logs in the southern Jura synclines, the La Bresse and Bas Dauphiné basins (Fig.…”
