“…The structure-activity relationships of immunomodulatory polysaccharides have been studied in the past decades, indicating the interaction of immunostimulatory polysaccharides with cell receptors may trigger signaling pathways and thereby result in the induction of gene transcription (Ferreira, Passos, Madureira, Vilanova, & Coimbra, 2015). A Houttuynia cordata pectic polysaccharide (HCP-2) with a linear chain of 1,4-linked ␣-D-galacturonic acid residues could increase the secretions of IL-1␤, TNF-␣, MIP-1␣, MIP-1␤ and RANTES in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells via TLR-4 mediated signaling .…”

“…Effects of DNP-W6 and its derivatives on the proliferation of lymphocytes in vitro. linkage are some of the structural features recognized to contribute to the polysaccharides immunostimulatory activity [34]. The content of uronic acids has been considered to play important roles in biological activity [35][36][37], and many acid polysaccharides have immunomodulatory activity [36][37][38].…”

“…Et75A-I fraction only presented 2.2% of UA residues (Table 1) and (1 → 4)-Galp residues, which are diagnostic for pectic polysaccharides AG-I side chains, were not detected ( Table 2). As AG-I have been reported to contribute for macrophage NO production (Ferreira et al, 2015;Inngjerdingen et al, 2008), it is possible that P. tridentatum AG-I also contribute to Et75A immunostimulatory activity. Because de-acetylated galactomannans account for approximately 50% of the carbohydrates present in Et75A-I fraction, only when the macrophages were stimulated with 200 g/mL a significant NO production was observed.…”
