Structure and Properties of Networks in Heat-resistant Polymers

Abstract

High resolution K-L2.3 x-ray spectra from KF, KCI, KBr and KI have been measured with a 6 m grating spectrometer using electron excitation. Low-energy emission structures of the L , , q lines are observed for all compounds. Evidence is presented that these structures are mainly due to the discrete 3s13p6-3s23pJn[ ( n = 3 , 4 ) final-state configuration interaction instead of the continuum 3s13p6-3s23p4cI configuration interaction found previously for Cl-. The threshold energies, calculated using the localised-hole point-ion (LHPI) model with a continuum phonon correction, are found to be consistent with this interpretation. The 2p-'3p-'-3s-'3p-' double-ionisation satellites are found to be anomalously weak in comparison with argon and Cl-. The large widths of the L, and L,,lines are attributed to 3s-'-V2 super-Coster-Kronig transitions, which are not allowed in the free ion.
