Structural, photophysical and photocatalytic properties of new Bi2SbVO7 under visible light irradiation

Abstract: Bi(2)SbVO(7) was prepared by solid-state reaction technique for the first time and the structural and photocatalytic properties of Bi(2)SbVO(7) and Bi(2)GaTaO(7) were investigated. The results showed that Bi(2)SbVO(7) crystallized with the tetragonal crystal system by space group I4/mmm. In addition, the band gaps of Bi(2)SbVO(7) and Bi(2)GaTaO(7) were estimated to be 2.33 and 2.52 eV. The photocatalytic degradation of aqueous methylene blue (MB) dye over Bi(2)SbVO(7) and Bi(2)GaTaO(7) was investigated under v… Show more

“…Recent years have shown extensive work towards developing new visible‐light photocatalysts, many of which are mixed oxides and, in particular, mixed oxides of bismuth, such as BiO(Cl x Br 1‐ x ),124 Bi 2 SbVO 7 ,125 and Bi 2 WO 6 126. For most cases, these materials were tested for the degradation of dyes such as methylene blue and rhodamine B and their activity was evaluated based on decolorization and not on mineralization.…”

“…In order to solve this problem, many scientists look forward to degrading harmful dye effluents from contaminated water with photocatalytic techniques before appropriate disposal, and these scientists have been contributing their various efforts to this career for more than 40 years [3,4,5]. Nowadays, photocatalytic degradation processes have been widely applied as techniques for the destruction of organic pollutants in wastewater and effluents, especially the degradation of dyes [6]. …”

“…Zou et al synthetized Bi 2 MNbO 7 (M = Al, Ga, In, Y or Fe) [51,52,53] which was one remarkable representative of the family of A 2 B 2 O 7 compounds with the A 3+ 2 B 4+ 2 O 7 pyrochlore structure by substituting B 4+ sites in A 3+ 2 B 4+ 2 O 7 for M 3+ (M 3+ = Al 3+ , Ga 3+ , In 3+ ) and Nb 5+ . Similarly, previous studies had reported Bi 2 GaVO 7 [54] and Bi 2 SbVO 7 [55] by element doping, which had realized visible-light photocatalytic degradation and H 2 production. Previous works indicated that the Ga 3+ and In 3+ ions could influence the band gap and the electronic structure of the compound photocatalysts, which was expected to cause the different photocatalytic activity [56,57].…”
