Structural, Optical, Morphological and Dielectric Properties of Cerium Oxide Nanoparticles

Abstract: Cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) nanoparticles were prepared by the precipitation method. The average crystallite size of cerium oxide nanoparticles was calculated from the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern and found to be 11 nm. The FT-IR spectrum clearly indicated the strong presence of cerium oxide nanoparticles. Raman spectrum confirmed the cubic nature of the cerium oxide nanoparticles. The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis showed that the nanoparticles agglomerated forming spherical-shaped particles. The Tr… Show more

“…The estimated value of the bandgap of the samples is smaller than the value (3.2 eV) reported for bulk CeO 2. The reduction (red‐shift) in the bandgap of CeO 2 has been attributed to the formation of some localized band between the valence (VB) and the conduction band (CB). Oxygen vacancies ( V O ) may create their own energy state between valence and the conduction band of CeO 2 .…”

“…For example, NPs in polygonal, cube or rod shapes have sharp edges and could cause mechanical damage to cells. 7,65,66 Therefore, the effect of NP shape cannot be ignored for biological applications. As mentioned earlier, almost all the green methods of ceria synthesis that are mentioned herein have produced NPs with spherical morphology.…”

“…This method provides a simple and fast approach for the large-scale production of new emergent complex functional materials. In addition, it also enables the shape-controlled synthesis of micro-and/or nanomaterials at a lower cost, for their industrial exploitation with unprecedented capabilities in the new technologies [9][10][11][12][13][14] .…”
