Structural, mechanical, and electrical properties of electropolymerized polypyrrole composite films

Abstract: Electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole in a solution containing dissolved poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) produces a homogeneous, free-standing, flexible, and conductive polymer film. The films were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The appearance of standard and some new absorption bands for polypyrrole (PPy) and PVA confirms the composite formation. The mechanical properties of conducting PVA ϩ PPy films were studied and found to … Show more

“…3) was performed to study the effect of silver nitrate concentration on PPy, strong nitrate doping vibrations were observed at approximately 1385 cm −1 with the incorporation of silver nitrate in the reaction [18,45]. The characteristic bands present at approximately 770 and 880 cm −1 might be ascribed to the C H and C C out of plane deformations, while the band present at approximately 1090 cm −1 may correspond to C H in plane vibrations [23,[46][47][48][49]. The bands present at approximately 3400 cm −1 may be assigned to N H stretching in PPy [50].…”

“…Generally, the electrons travel from CNTs to the NH 3 gas (reducing gas), resulting in the increase of electrical resistance [33]. The following reactions are possibly involved in the NH 3 gas sensing process [34,35] by FE-SEM images. The grain size of the PPy decreased as MWCNTs content increased.…”

“…Improvement of these material properties can be achieved by forming copolymers, composites, or blends with commercially available polymers or with inorganic materials which offer better mechanical and optical properties, stability, process ability [19][20][21][22][23][24][25].…”
