“…In order to improve the electrical properties, solid solutions of BiFeO 3 with other perovskites such as BaTiO 3 and PbTiO 3 have been studied [10,11,12]. The formation of solid solutions suppresses secondary phase formation and allows the creation of morphotropic phase boundaries (MPBs) between polymorphs of the perovskite phase, with a concomitant improvement in piezoelectric properties [13].…”

“…The x BaTiO 3 -(1− x )BiFeO 3 system has an MPB at x = 0.33 between rhombohedral and pseudocubic phases [14]. Compositions close to the MPB have good piezoelectric properties ( d 33 > 100 pC/N, bipolar strain of ~0.15% at an electric field of 6 kV/mm) and good temperature stability [10,12,14,15]. Matsuo et al studied the system x (K 0.5 Bi 0.5 )TiO 3 -(1− x )BiFeO 3 (KBT-BFO) and found it to have an MPB between rhombohedral and pseudocubic phases at x ≈ 0.4 [16].…”

“…However, most of these studies on BiFeO 3 -BaTiO 3 focused on the dielectric and magnetic properties and rarely exhibit strong ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity because of the low resistivity and high loss tangent of the materials [19][20][21]. Recently, it has been reported that MnO 2 -added BiFeO 3 -BaTiO 3 ceramics exhibit considerable piezoelectric response and saturated ferroelectric polarization hysteresis [22][23][24]. However, there has almost no report on the simultaneous existence of good piezoelectric, ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties in BiFeO 3 -bsed ceramics.…”

“…In order to decrease the leakage current and improve its electrical behavior, site engineering has been proposed and studied. Elements like Sm, Gd, Tb, Nd were introduced into A-site [11][12][13], and Mn, Co, Sc, Cr were used to replace B-site [14][15][16]. Among those ion substitutions, the film with Mn substitution exhibits a significantly reduced leakage current and an improved breakdown voltage, so that well-saturated ferroelectric hysteresis loops can be detected.…”
