Structural characterisation of textile ceramic technology used as a curtain wall

Abstract: Textile Ceramic Technology (TCT) is a system composed of ceramic units installed in a grid of steel wires. TCT application as a curtain wall which allows ventilation is expected to be an inexpensive, aesthetic and sustainable solution. In order to use TCT as a curtain wall, experimental research about the mechanical response of hanged TCT panels is required. The main aim of this paper is to present the results of this experimental work. Different loading conditions corresponding to gravity and wind forces have… Show more

“…Numerous investigations have addressed the importance of building envelopes in energy consumption and environmental comfort conditions [1]- [6]. Some of them have shown very interesting results on the performance of ventilated façades, finished in various materials, such as stone, aluminum, bakelized wood [7] or porcelain stoneware [8]. In climates such as the Mediterranean coast, these systems are in summer much of the solar gain due to the heating of the soil layer thanks to the upward convection currents of the ventilated chamber.…”

“…In this way, the 900 m 2 mural by Manuel Baeza would disappear. Recovery of the mural and the original aesthetic aspect of the building have been inspired by the Flexbrick [12] system. This could be resolved with FINSA stainless steel fabric and parts made from lightweight porcelain stoneware affixed in the form of mosaic tiles.…”

“…Thus, it is expected that TCT behaves differently when used for different applications such as façades (see [9]), pavements, floors, roofs, etc. The first studied industrialised use of TCT was as a pavement because it permits the exploitation of most of the TCT advantageous properties.…”
