Structural and optical properties of a radio frequency magnetron-sputtered ZnO thin film with different growth angles

Abstract: This study introduces optical properties of a columnar structured zinc oxide [ZnO] antireflection coating for solar cells. We obtained ZnO films of columnar structure on glass substrates using a specially designed radio frequency magnetron sputtering system with different growth angles. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy was utilized to check the growth angles of the ZnO films which were controlled at 0°, 15°, and 30°. The film thickness was fixed at 100 nm to get a constant experiment condition. Grai… Show more

“…From literature we have studied that ZnO based thin films can be deposited by metal organic chemical vapor disposition, spray pyrolysis, Rf sputtering, sol-gel, molecular beam epitaxy, pulsed laser deposition etc [18][19]. Among these, we preferred pulsed laser deposition technique which has several advantages like thickness of thin films have been controlled by adjusting the laser fluence and pulse rate, uniform thin films can be deposited.…”

“…There were many papers about the fabrication and characterization of ZnO films in the past decades [ 6 - 8 ]. However, few reports presented the piezoelectric quality of ZnO film quantitatively.…”

“…There is a wide experimental evidence of the growth of 30° tilted ZnO films with the rf sputtering technique [12,13,14] or by PLD [15]. The 30° tilt angle represents a tradeoff between high structural quality of the currently grown films and quite good K 2 of both the first Love mode and the Rayleigh wave.…”
