Structural- and optical-properties analysis of single crystalline hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanocubes prepared by one-pot hydrothermal approach

Abstract: 15 16 High quality single crystal hematite (α-Fe 2 O 3 ) nanocubes with average dimensions of 40 nm 17 were successfully synthesized by a facile one-pot hydrothermal method. Systematic analyses 18 were performed to investigate the morphological-, structural-and optical-properties of the as-19 synthesized α-Fe 2 O 3 nanocubes. Continuous formation and hourly monitored towards proper 20 arrangement of single crystal α-Fe 2 O 3 nanocubes are observed throughout the hydrothermal 21 heating process of 180°C started… Show more

“…5(c) shows PL spectra exploring recombination or transfer of photogenerated electrons and hole pairs between Fe 2 O 3 and g-C 3 N 4 . Typically, large (>70 nm) nanomaterials do not exhibit PL since optical transition is not possible 55 and our Fe 2 O 3 nanorods also did not show any significant emission peaks. In other words, 0.25g-C 3 N 4 @Fe 2 O 3 film also showed almost no PL emission peak possibly due to small amounts of g-C 3 N 4 loading on bare Fe 2 O 3 .…”

“…The spectra of pristine MWCNT sheet features D, G, and G′ bands for the MWCNTs at 1340.3, 1574.8, and 2672.7 cm −1 , respectively. Note that in the Raman spectrum of the MWCNT–9/1Fe 2 O 3 sheet, most of the signals were from Fe 2 O 3 instead of MWCNT; the peaks at 221.76 and 482.06 cm −1 are related to A 1g mode of α ‐Fe 2 O 3 while the peaks at 284.75, 398.07, and 589.97 cm −1 are related to E g mode of α ‐Fe 2 O 3 , and the peak at 1317 cm −1 is related to disordered structure (D band) of the MWCNTs.…”

“…On the other hand, the presence of the specific ligands or surfactants also affects the growth of nanomaterials with well-defined facets. The most typical ligands are OLEA and OA (oleic acid) [127][128][129]. The first one is responsible for stabilization of nanocrystals, while the second by selective adsorption on {104} planes affects reduction of the surface energy and directed crystal growth.…”

“…The whole process of crystal growth under these conditions may be attributed to the aggregation and Ostwald ripening. Moreover, Rashid et al [128] claim that oleate anions as capping agents inhibit the formation of Fe-O-Fe bonds due to the strong covalent interaction between them and Fe 3+ .…”
