Structural and functional characterization of Tomato SUMO1 gene

Abstract: Small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) genes regulate various functions of target proteins through post-translational modification. The SUMO proteins have a similar 3-dimensional structure as that of ubiquitin proteins and occur through a cascade of enzymatic reactions. In the present study we have cloned a new SUMO gene from Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), cv Saudi-1, named SlS-SUMO1 gene by PCR using specific primers. This gene has SUMO member's features such as C-terminal diglycine (GG) motif as processi… Show more

“…The SUMO system contains several protein isoforms which participate in SUMOylation reactions [ 4 ]. SUMOylation is a mechanism that occurs in the nucleus and cytoplasm via a cascade of parallel enzymatic reactions, including activation enzymes (E1-SUMO), conjugation enzymes (E2-SUMO), and ligation enzymes (E3-SUMO) [ 13 , 14 ]. It often occurs in lysine (K) inside the SUMO consensus sequence ΨKXE/D (ψ, a hydrophobic residue; K, lysine; X, any amino acid; and E/D, glutamic, or aspartic) [ 11 , 15 , 16 ].…”

“…Tomato (Solanum lycopersium Mill. ), pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) and eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) all over the world, including Russia, are among the most cultivated and consumed vegetable crops [1][2][3][4]. So, for example, Krasnodar Krai is one of the leading regions of Russia in terms of area and production of tomato in open ground.…”
