Structural and Floristic Variations in an Atlantic Subtropical Rainforest in Southern Brazil

Abstract: The Atlantic Subtropical Rainforest covers a huge area of Santa Catarina state, starting on the coast and going through the Serra Geral. Along its distribution, the vegetation changes according to altitude, geomorphology, and soil. In the attempt to evaluate vegetation variations related to different soil types in an Atlantic Forest remnant, 43 plots of 200 m 2 were sampled. All the individuals with DBH ≥ 5.0 cm were measured. We have found consistent floristic and structural variations, which separated sample… Show more

“…In this sense, in the present study we analyze two main questions: (1) Which environmental factors influence the distribution patterns of regenerative species? We expect to find a great effect of soil and canopy opening in determining floristic composition, because these are well known to be the main factors conditioning changes in the composition of vegetation in the Atlantic Rainforest at local scales (Higuchi et al, 2015(Higuchi et al, , 2016Souza et al, 2017;Maçaneiro et al, 2019). (2) Is the spatial structure of the community related to regenerative species and environmental factors?…”

“…De acordo com Machado et al (2009), a partir das informações diamétricas é possível planejar o manejo da vegetação, enquanto que as variações altimétricas estão associadas a variações climáticas e topográficas (SÍMOVÁ et al, 2015). Além disso, fatores ecológicos e ambientais também influenciam diretamente na altura e diâmetro das árvores (SANTOS et al, 2016;MAÇANEIRO et al, 2019).…”
