Striatal dopamine transporter SPECT quantification: head-to-head comparison between two three-dimensional automatic tools

Abstract: Purpose Our aim was to compare a widely distributed commercial tool with an older free software (i) one another, (ii) with a clinical motor score, (iii) versus reading by experts. Procedures We analyzed consecutive scans from one-hundred and fifty-one outpatients submitted to brain DAT SPECT for a suspected parkinsonism. Images were post-processed using a commercial (Datquant®) and a free (BasGanV2) software. Reading by expert was the gold standard. A subset of patients with pathological or borderline scan w… Show more

“…Of note, HCs were enrolled based on the visual assessment of DATscan (normal versus abnormal) as per regulatory approval of DATscan 38 . Visual and quantitative DAT have high but not 100% correlation 39 . Thus, some HCs had DAT deficit based on the quantitative analysis.…”

“…One of the expected merits of DAT-PET with higher spatial resolution is the segmentation of tracer accumulation into caudate and putamen regions. A detailed evaluation based on this segementation enables differentiation of neurodegenerative Parkinsonism ( 29 , 30 ). However, in clinical practice, the use of DAT-PET entails higher costs and higher radiation exposure.…”

“…2 ) [ 16 , 17 ]. DaTQUANT enables setting these normalised VOIs automatically and calculation of the different types of quantitative indices: the SBR and PCR [ 10 , 15 , 18 ]. The SBR is defined as the mean counts of the striatal VOI (background-subtracted) divided by the mean counts of the occipital lobe VOI.…”
