Abstract:Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes are changing due to the widely introduced pneumococcal conjugate vaccines. Surveillance studies have proven valuable in monitoring these vaccine effects. S. pneumoniae is highly adaptable to its human reservoir and colonises mucosal surfaces of upper airways mainly in children.
