Strength characteristic and failure criterion of flexible multi-axial warp-knitted fabrics coated with polyurethane on single side

Abstract: Coated fabrics are widely used in tension structures. In order to investigate the tensile behaviors of the coated fabrics, one group of specimens was cut out from multi-axial warp-knitted polyester fabrics coated with polyurethane on one side. These failure strengths of polyurethane-coated multi-axial warp-knitted fabrics were obtained by the method of uniaxial tensile test and a failure stress criterion is presented for the kind of materials. The results show that the coated fabric is anisotropic material, an… Show more

“…Multiaxial warp-knitted fabrics (MWFs) are widely used in the field of wind turbine blades since their unique structure and excellent mechanical properties in all directions. [1][2][3][4] The curing process changes the properties of the matrix by influencing the cross-linking reaction between the epoxy resin and the curing agent, and ultimately effect the mechanical properties of wind turbine blades. In order to obtain higher mechanical properties of the wind turbine blades, it is important to analyze the mechanism of cross-linking reaction in the matrix system, set up a reasonable curing process to control the cross-linking reaction and finally achieve the purpose of improving mechanical properties.…”

“…Many engineering problems include creep 7,8 mainly exists in fan blades, bridges, parts and other places and has a great impact on safety performance of structure part. The multiaxial warp-knitted fabric has excellent mechanical properties in all directions as a composite material reinforcement and is widely used in fan blades, aerospace, construction, and other fields [9][10][11] and gradually replaces traditional materials. VARI molding process 12,13 is widely used for integral large-size molding due to its low cost and excellent mechanical properties of molding materials.…”

“…It is known that loop geometry strongly depends on the raw material of yarns [8]. Knits used for personal protection have to have enhanced mechanical strength properties, which strongly depend on knitting pattern and structural characteristics [3,9,10]. On the other hand, garments for personal protection also have to ensure good comfort properties [11].…”
