Streaming video over a wireless network faces several challenges such as high packet error rates, bandwidth variations, and delays, which could have negative effects on the video streaming and the viewer will perceive a frozen picture for certain durations due to loss of frames. In this study, we propose a Time Interleaving Robust Streaming (TIRS) technique to significantly reduce the frozen video problem and provide a satisfactory quality for the mobile viewer. This is done by reordering the streaming video frames as groups of even and odd frames. The objective of streaming the video in this way is to avoid the losses of a sequence of neighbouring frames in case of a long sequence interruption. We evaluate our approach by using a user panel and mean opinion score (MOS) measurements; where the users observe three levels of frame losses. The results show that our technique significantly improves the smoothness of the video on the mobile device in the presence of frame losses, while the transmitted data are only increased by almost 9% (due to reduced time locality).

The lockdown of the society that caused by COVID 19 couldn’t affect the education sector as there is an alternative option that the students can take their education in online classes. Online classes start been widely used over the Internet as all the education sectors start using the e-learning system. E-learning system use the online tools to stream the contents of the lecture, such contents will increase the traffic load on the networks. The load of the networks will affect the smoothness of the online classes, as there is a possibility that the video frames could be lost or corrupted. Frame distance technique is proposed to reduce the traffic on the networks, by dropping the redundancy slides that are related to the same display time segment. Three different frame distance technique are considered in this study (low, medium and high) to show the amount of bandwidth that are required to stream the video to a group of students. From the outcomes it can be found from that, adaption will be necessary to reduce the video traffic load on the networks that will have a positive effect on the online classes.

The ability to transmit video and carry real-time multimedia applications such as video-streaming, video conferencing and mobile TV are considered important to support the viability and survivability of next generation mobile wireless networks. High peak transmission rate, spectral efficiency and multiple channel bandwidth requirements influence the design of next generation networks. For efficient usage of resources a number of block assignment strategies are followed based on congestion of traffic and priority of the service. Efficient block assignment schemes such as dynamic channel assignment (DCA) and dynamic packet Assignment (DPA) have been analysed in the literature. The authors propose a block assignment strategy for video traffic which sends video bursts over multiple blocks of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed access subcarriers simultaneously considering the interference characteristics of the channel. They present an analytical model using stochastic petrinets and compute the performance of the system in terms of mean delay and normalised system throughput. The results are validated using simulations. They compare the performance of the proposed sub-sequence DPA scheme in terms of mean delay and normalised throughput with DPA and DCA. It is observed that with the proposed strategy there is an increase in normalised throughput by 66 and 57% and reduction in mean delay by 74 and 61% for DCA and DPA, respectively.
