Strategy and Future Prospects to Develop Room-Temperature-Recoverable NO2 Gas Sensor Based on Two-Dimensional Molybdenum Disulfide

Abstract: Nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a hazardous gas with acidic nature, is continuously being liberated in the atmosphere due to human activity. The NO2 sensors based on traditional materials have limitations of high-temperature requirements, slow recovery, and performance degradation under harsh environmental conditions. These limitations of traditional materials are forcing the scientific community to discover future alternative NO2 sensitive materials. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has emerged as a potential candidate fo… Show more

“…Despite scientific advancement in the field of gas sensors there are some areas in which researchers are facing challenges some of them are the selectivity for a target gas, in depth understanding of response time and the mechanism of sensitivity. So, in future we will see that much more attention will be given for the development of flexible and wearable sensor devices developed through the advanced synthesis methods to improve dispersion and to get uniform properties of the nanocomposites [8,9].…”

“…NO 2 and SO 2 gases are typical air pollutants, which can weaken our respiratory system and result in serious human diseases. Therefore, it is urgent to develop gas sensors with high sensitivity and selectivity for real-time alarming NO 2 and SO 2 in the surrounding environment[24,25]. A theoretical study predicted that C 3 N monolayer has good selectivity for NO2 or SO 2 adsorptions in mixed gases of NO 2 , SO 2 , NH 3 , H 2 S, CO, CO 2 , NO, CH 4 , HCN, N 2 , H 2 , and O 2 [26].…”
