Geosites represent important elements of geoheritage for promoting geotourism sustainable practices aimed at education and conservation. The Santa Elena Peninsula Geopark Project has several locations with geological, cultural and historical richness and the potential for geosites and tourist development. However, these places lack infrastructures that improves tourist reception and local geoeducation. In this study, Geotourism Interpretation Centres (GICs) were designed using sustainable and architectural criteria to improve geoeducation and geotourism in geosites of the Santa Elena Peninsula Geopark Project. The work included two stages: (i) selection of the geosites and (ii) design of the GICs. Four geosites were selected for the design: Barrio Ingles Ancon Parish, Manglaralto’s Coastal Aquifer, San Vicente Hot Springs, and San Rafael Mines. A GIC design adaptable to the four sites is proposed based on three zones: recreational–passive, services and cultural. The design prioritises sustainability, considering four criteria: political–economic, social, cultural and environmental. The proposal takes advantage of the area’s natural materials and the natural climatic conditions to offer a space that improves the geotourism experience in mimicry with the environment, promoting cultural roots and community benefit.

Chinese Four-character idioms are fixed phrases with four Chinese characters that have been used for a long time in Chinese. They are language units with richer meanings and equivalent grammatical functions than words. They are concise, easy to remember, and easy to use. Many idioms have two or more meanings. It is precisely for this reason that the English translation of Chinese idioms has brought considerable difficulties. In the process of translating idioms into English, it is difficult to be accurate, profound, and complete. Therefore, a variety of English translation techniques should be combined for translating Chinese four-character idioms. This paper analyzed the definition, characteristics, classification, and translatability of Chinese four-character idioms, and concluded three commonly applied strategies for translating Chinese four-character idioms into English: the literal translation, the free translation, and the combination of literal and free translation. Finally, some problems existing in the translation of Chinese four-character idioms are analyzed and summarized: poor acceptance by foreigners, loss of cultural elements, and unbalanced cultural status.

Texts collected from three websites are investigated: the official tourism website of China (ST website), the English version of the ST website (TT website), and the official tourism website of the US (PT website) to figure out how the TT performs among the US readers. Firstly, an analysis of the ST is carried out from three aspects of tourism namely landscapes, performancescapes and stylescapes based on the Cultural-Conceptual Translation (CCT) model so as to explore how the destination utilizes culture-related themes to attract readers in the source culture. Secondly, the PT is discussed in terms of three scapes mentioned above and compared to the ST for exploring how tourism promotional materials (TPMs) are initially written in the target language to attract tourists in the target culture. Six dimensions of culture namely collectivism/individualism, restraint/indulgence, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, high/low context, and short/long term orientation are discussed when analyzing what themes are presented and how those themes are presented. Finally, based on the results of the first two steps and an analysis of the TT, corresponding translation strategies are given.
