Business and IT strategic alignment is continuously explored from different facets motivated by the demands for an organisation to be well aligned with its business and IT strategies for business continuity. The management aspect rather than technological issues often cause misalignment in business and IT strategies more significantly. One of the issues is the communication ineffectiveness between business and IT people involved in planning the business and IT strategic alignment. Difficulty to achieve mutual understanding between these two teams is a critical problem in communication and hinders the successful alignment. Therefore, a set of determinants for mutual understanding is proposed. Extensive analysis on literature has been carried out to identify and define the determining factors. The review can serve as a reference for business and IT executives to improve their communication effectiveness towards achieving well-aligned business and IT strategic alignment.

Over the past few years, governments from all over the world are losing general public trust. This lack of public trust presents a significant challenge to public officers, citizens and politicians as it decreases community confidence in public officers and political performance and generates disappointment with community support and services. Alignment is a process where every stakeholder in the government infrastructure works together to achieve common business objectives. The aim of this paper is to study a comprehensive pattern (strategic, structural, social and cultural) of alignment with the aim of improving government services in Saudi Arabia. The data has been collected from different e-government experts from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Study result indicates that public trust and e-government goals can be attained through establishing strong alignment between information systems (IS) departments and other government agencies.

Due to business dynamics and complexities, aligning information systems to the organizational strategy goals has appeared to be a concern for researchers and practitioners over the last decade. The challenge of achieving this alignment becomes even more severe and demanding day after day. Many published research is rich with regards to alignment models and frameworks. However, there is little in the literature that explains what managers should do with these frameworks, other than understand them conceptually. Although these models address how organizations can achieve alignment, they provide very little contribution on how to identify misalignment. Therefore, this paper focuses on this research gap in an attempt to develop a conceptual model that detects business-IS strategies misalignment. Accordingly, a three-phased research process (Model Development, Multiple Case Studies, and Model Refinement) is conducted to propose a well-defined conceptual model of five constructs (Business-IT relationship, IT Projects, Business-IT Communication, Business-IT Engagement, and Business-IT Strategic Misalignment). The model is an attempt to allow managers better understand business-IS strategic misalignment, and easily detect the areas of improvements to enhance the alignment level existing among the business and the technological assets of an enterprise. This research resulted in a business-IS strategic misalignment model refined by business and IT experts.
