Strategic Design of Synthetic Consortium with Embedded Wastewater Treatment Potential: Deciphering the Competence of Isolates from Diverse Microbiome

Abstract: The exploitation of such consortia can overcome the inefficiencies pre-existing with the biological wastewater treatment plants by acting as prospective candidates for bio-augmenting the native microflora. This communication illustrated development of the efficient consortia using lab isolated strains to improve the performance of wastewater treatment.

“…The observed increase could be ascribed to bacterial dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA), also known as nitrate/nitrite ammonification, a not very common process that is the result of anaerobic respiration by chemo-organo-heterotrophic microbes. This process could been performed by naturally occurring bacteria [36]. The nitrate source of nitrogen, significantly decreased, according with previous results obtained by using the same biological system on nitrate rich waters [27].…”

“…Pseudomonas is a member of Gammaproteobacteria belonging to the group of denitrifying bacteria with diverse metabolic abilities (Dados et al, 2015). As reported previously, P. otitidis is used for wastewater treatment (Dahiya & Mohan, 2016), including contaminant removal processes, such as dye degradation and bioremediation in hydrocarbon-contaminated soils (Dados et al, 2015;Wu et al, 2009).…”

“…The cells are rod-shaped, motile, and Gram-negative (Clark et al, 2006). According to Dahiya & Mohan (2016), P. otitidis is a potential bacterium for wastewater treatment. (Dados et al, 2015;Wu et al, 2009).…”

“…Pillai et al isolated a hot spring bacterium, called Bacillus subtilis P13, that is able to effectively degrade and grow using chrome shavings (Pillai and Archana, 2012). Due to the high resistance of some compounds to biodegradation, bioagumentation strategies have been studied, (Chen et al, 2017;Dahiya and Venkata Mohan, 2016;Nzila et al, 2016). Bioaugmentation involves the addition of microorganisms that have the ability to biodegrade recalcitrant molecules in a polluted environment (Nzila et al, 2016;Fernendez et al, 2019).…”
