Strategic Behavior of Retailers for Risk Reduction and Profit Increment via Distributed Generators and Demand Response Programs

Abstract: Following restructuring of power industry, electricity supply to end-use customers has undergone fundamental changes. In the restructured power system, some of the responsibilities of the vertically integrated distribution companies have been assigned to network managers and retailers. Under the new situation, retailers are in charge of providing electrical energy to electricity consumers who have already signed contract with them. Retailers usually provide the required energy at a variable price, from wholesa… Show more

“…The growing utilization of data collectors in energy systems has resulted in a massive amount of data accumulated. Smart sensors are now extensively used in energy production and energy consumption [7][8][9]. Such big data has created a vast number of opportunities and challenges for informed decision-making [10,11].…”

“…The objective function (19) and corresponding constraints (20)- (25) are obtained based on duality theory. A detailed description of how to convert the objective function (17) into (19) is given in [42,44]. Variables β and ξ j are the dual variables of optimization problem (13)-(16) while y j is an auxiliary variable used to obtain the equivalent linear expression.…”

“…Demand response (DR) is defined as the electricity consumption change in response to price signals (e.g., time-varying electricity prices) or incentive payments [16]. DR program is a program or pricing scheme established to motivate end-users to reschedule their energy consumption in response to changes in the electricity prices, or to give appropriate incentive payments to customers to adjust their load profiles [17,18]. An efficient DR program can reduce the peak load, compensate for uncertainties of renewable energy generation, and increase the profits [19][20][21].…”

“…It is entirely possible that these permanent magnet brushless motor drives will become predominant in the next century [20]. Nevertheless, the control, design, and optimization of rotating electrical machines require advanced techniques and modern mathematical models to keep up with the ever-increasing demand for energy [21][22][23][24][25]. In fact, practical solutions to engineering problems involve model-integrated computing [26,27].…”
