Strangeness Enhancement in Cu-Cu and Au-Au Collisions atsNN=200GeV

Abstract: We report new STAR measurements of mid-rapidity yields for the Λ, Λ, K 0 S , Ξ − , Ξ+ , Ω − , Ω+ particles in Cu+Cu collisions at √ sNN = 200 GeV, and mid-rapidity yields for the Λ, Λ, K 0 Sparticles in Au+Au at √ sNN = 200 GeV. We show that at a given number of participating nucleons, the production of strange hadrons is higher in Cu+Cu collisions than in Au+Au collisions at the same center-of-mass energy. We find that aspects of the enhancement factors for all particles can be described by a parameterization… Show more

“…4 and 5, respectively, in comparison with the data from the PHENIX, STAR, and ALICE Collaborations [19,48,50,51,54,55]. Here again the low-momentum spectra forp,¯ +¯ 0 , − ,¯ + , and − +¯ + are roughly described at low momenta; however, the high p T tails are missed considerably at √ s NN = 200 GeV in Fig.…”

“…Figure 7 shows the rapidity density of baryons and antibaryons from PHSD at midrapidity in comparison to data from the PHENIX and STAR Collaborations [48,54,55] experimental data are slightly overestimated (except for + 0 ), while calculations with only BB annihilation (dashed red lines) show a slight tendency to underestimate the data. The results from PHSD calculations with the 2 ↔ 3 reactions included are displayed by the black solid lines and lie in between the other limits.…”

“…We fix the transverse flow strength parameter η f from the single spectra in Au+Au collisions at √ s NN = 200 GeV measured by the STAR Collaboration [36]. We use the 20-40% data since the detailed spectrum after feed-down subtraction is given.…”

“…While accelerations of protons and light ions have been investigated, little has been reported on the acceleration of heavy ions. In fact, due to much heavier mass and more choices of charge to mass ratio, heavy ion beams have more advantageous applications related to nuclear science [3], high energy density physics [4], quark-gluon plasmas [5], and others. A large heavy ion accelerator, FAIR [6], is under construction.…”
