Strange-particle production innpinteractions at 4-8 GeV/c

Abstract: Results of a survey of strange-particle production in np interactions in the momentum range 4-8 GeV/c are presented. As details of 3-body events have already been published, the results for the most part concern 4-and 5-body events with no missing neutrals. Cross sections for production of the most prominent resonances are given, and the properties of certain quasi-3-body channels discussed and compared with the corresponding states produced inpp interactions. It is foundthatthe 'Zq(1385) resonance is produced… Show more

“…The production of Λ(1520) was not reported. We can estimate R Λ * for this experiment using the results of [42], where the inclusive cross section for Λ(1520) production was measured in n p interactions at 4-8 GeV/c and found to be ≈ 7 µb/nucleon. A conservative estimate gives R Λ * > 0.2-0.3.…”

“…For the treatment of the K + production and the neutronproton channel in simulations, the isospin interrelations between different reaction channels as given by the resonance model [30] are used. It should be stressed that the experimental data on kaon production in neutron-proton collisions are extremely scarce; reported measurements were done with a non-monoenergetic neutron beam [46]. Additionally to the changes in the model described above, we adopt a scaling factor of 0.5 for all three-body processes in the neutronproton channel, n + p → N + Y + K. (Further we vary the strengths of these channels before making any interpretation of experimental results.)…”
