Medium effects in proton-induced $K^{0}$ production at 3.5 GeV

et al.

Abstract: We present the analysis of the inclusive K 0 production in p+p and p+Nb collisions measured with the HADES detector at a beam kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV. Data are compared to the GiBUU transport model. The data suggest the presence of a repulsive momentum-dependent kaon potential as predicted by the Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). For the kaon at rest and at normal nuclear density, the ChPT potential amounts to ≈ 35 MeV. A detailed tuning of the kaon production cross sections implemented in the model has bee… Show more

“…We present the total cross sections and scattering lengths for the KN and K * N channels. Indeed, the results presented here are of special interest for K and K * production in p + p and p + A collisions, as reported by HADES [1][2][3], STAR [4] and NA49 [5] Collaborations.…”

“…The need for a reliable information on the in-medium kaon potential has also been discussed in Ref. [3] where the K 0 production in p+Nb reactions at a beam kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV is analyzed by HADES. Further, by analyzing the freeze-out temperature using a statistical hadronization model, the experimental results for K * 0 production seem to indicate the necessity of considering the rescattering of the decay products of K * 0 in the hadronic matter [1].…”

“…3) The relations (11) are in line with the results for the total cross sections for K 0 production channels pp → Λpπ + π 0 K 0 and pp → Λnπ + π + K 0 at beam kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV, which can be obtained assuming that these channels go exclusively through the reactions pp → ∆ ++ Σ(1385) 0 K 0 and pp → ∆ + Σ(1385) + K 0 and using formula (2) for the total cross sections of the latter reactions from Ref. [36], in which inclusive K 0 production in pp and pNb interactions was measured with the HADES detector. This gives us confidence that the use of these relations is justified at our beam energy of interest.…”
