Strahlenreaktionen an den Gonaden

Abstract: In all treatment situations-in adults as well as in children-an additive effect of the combination of chemotherapy with radiation on gonadal function has been shown. However, the severity of damage by radio-chemotherapy is highly dependent on the drugs used.

“…Sperm counts once per year are reasonable for monitoring fertility after radiotherapy. Should no improvement of sperm quality be observed 3 years after treatment, recovery no longer seems to be achievable [14]. Fathering children after low-dose testicular radiation scattering has been documented frequently, and sexual satisfaction will be maintained by the majority of patients.…”

“…Shapiro et al [35] examined the hormonal alterations of testicular function in patients with soft tissue sarcoma and found out a testicular dose-dependent radiation injury from scatter radiation. Herrmann [36] mentioned in his review that even scattered doses were able to decrease the sperm cell counts in the range of 2–3 Gy in conventional fractionation regimes, and gonadal endocrine function in boys was more sensitive than in adult men. Naysmith et al [37] also showed depression in semen concentration to the extent of rendering a man infertile after chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy.…”
