“…This result suggests that universities with an older history are more efficient in teaching and research. This result supports the findings of previous studies (Castano & Cabanda, 2007; Letti et al, 2022; Mousa & Ghulam, 2019; Rhaiem & Amara, 2020; Tran & Villano, 2017). These results can be attributed to the fact that top‐ranked universities tend to be more selective in recruiting human resources and are more committed to improving their institutions.…”

“…In these studies, the number of units, number of students, full‐time equivalent students, and number of programs were used as indicators of the size of the institution. In this study, the number of units in the university was used as an indicator of size in line with other studies. Prestige and reputation of the university : Several studies have indicated that the prestige and reputation of a university play an important role in determining its efficiency scores (Castano & Cabanda, 2007; Letti et al, 2022; Mousa & Ghulam, 2019; Rhaiem & Amara, 2020; Tran & Villano, 2017). As an indicator of this factor, the number of accreditations of the institution (Amara et al, 2020), the year of establishment of the university (Kuo & Ho, 2008; Wolszczak‐Derlacz & Parteka, 2011), the age of the university (Kounetas et al, 2011; Warning, 2004), and academic reputation score (Mensah & Werner, 2003) were used.…”

“…In addition to this constraint, one can cite other characteristics of SFA models that led to our choice for non-parametric DEA models: SFA is a parametric approach (i.e., we need to specify a functional form for the efficiency frontier) and the need to impose additional assumptions about the production possibility set and the data generating process. In addition, SFA models assume stochastic relationships, i.e., deviations from the frontier may be due to inefficiencies or noise in the data (LETTI et al, 2022).…”
