Stochastic Modeling-Based Variability Analysis of On-Chip Interconnects

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, a novel stochastic modeling strategy is constructed that allows assessment of the parameter variability effects induced by the manufacturing process of on-chip interconnects. The strategy adopts a three-step approach.

“…Obviously, the lower the standard deviation of the manufacturing uncertainty, the higher the production cost of the interconnects. We have generated 1000 realizations of H ch (f ) with |f | < 100 GHz, using the polynomial chaos-based approach outlined in [8], [9].…”

“…Many techniques described in the literature use an intrusive PC-based approach to perform the VA [1] - [3], [5]. Hence, the PC expansion is applied to a deterministic model (i.e per-unitlength parameters, state-space representation) that describes the system under study, leading to an augmented PC-based model that can be computed using the Galerkin projections [1] - [3], [5].…”

“…In this scenario, different techniques have proposed PCbased methodologies for the VA of specific systems: multiconductor transmission lines [1] - [3] or lumped elements circuits [4]. Recently, the technique [5] has proposed the application of the PC expansion to the VA of generic linear multiport systems.…”

“…In PC-based approaches, a stochastic process is represented as a series of orthogonal polynomials with suitable coefficients. The PC methodology has been extensively applied to the variability analysis of linear systems, such as lumped elements circuits [9], [10], multiconductor transmission lines [11]- [13] and generic linear multiport systems [14]. Also, the PC methodology has been proposed for the variability analysis of nonlinear electronic circuits [15]- [18].…”
