“…The MCNP5 code has been previously used in brachytherapy dosimetry (Rivard et al 2007, Polgar and Major 2009, Yang and Rivard 2008, Yang et al 2011. In this study, MCNP5 Monte Carlo code (X-5 Monte Carlo Team) was used to simulate the treatment devices such as custom-designed applicators, tissue equivalent phantom and other accessories, which were needed for designed an under compression irradiation technique.…”

“…AccuBoost ® (Advanced Radiation Therapy LLC, Bil-lerica, MA) is a non-invasive brachytherapy technique and a sample of under compression treatment technique in which a boost radiation dose is delivered to the breast cancer patient by compressing the breast tissue in order to minimize the dose to the healthy tissue. In this system, the breast is immobilized via a moderate compression, followed by a 2D mammographic imaging for target localization (Rivard et al 2007, Hoover et al 2011. Figure 1 illustrates the schematic diagram of the breast treatment with the AccuBoost application system.…”

“…The AccuBoost system employs a conventional mammography unit, a computed radiography ͑CR͒ system, and a high dose rate ͑HDR͒ 192 Ir brachytherapy source remote afterloading system to deliver breast brachytherapy in a peripheral, noninvasive manner. [1][2][3][4][5] The breast is compressed in the mammography unit, and a radio-opaque graticule is positioned over the treatment area using the CR system. Once the graticule is properly positioned, the graticule is swapped with the treatment applicator for brachytherapy delivery where the graticule center and the geometric center of the applicator are aligned.…”
