Status of the RED-100 experiment

Abstract: The RED-100 two-phase xenon emission detector has been deployed at 19-m distance from the reactor core of the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) in 2021 -2022 for investigation of the possibility to observe reactor antineutrinos using the effect of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEνNS). The performance of the main systems of the RED-100 setup at operating nuclear power plant is described. There is no correlation of the radioactive background at the experimental setup site with ON and OFF states … Show more

“…The antineutrino flux estimated at the detector location is Φ νe = 1.35 × 10 13 cm −2 s −1 . In our analysis we included the most conservative estimation for the number of the expected events (1020 events day −1 ), and the threshold energy corresponds to 500 eV [46,47].…”

“…With no shielding, the overwhelming muon-induced neutrons would result in event misidentifications. Similar conceptual designs to suppress muon-induced neutrons have been considered using LAr and LXe TPC detectors [50,51].…”
