We used the critical value for the 99% confidence level from tables in Rorabacher (1991) to determine the probability that a value was an outlier; thus, an index with an r 10 greater than 0.503 contained one outlier on the same end, and an index with an r 20 greater than 0.590 contained two outliers on the same end. The 99% confidence level detects only the most extreme outliers, especially when applied to small sample sizes.…”
