“…To assess if our results were environmentally relevant, we compared our exposure concentrations to contaminant concentrations in polar bear liver 66,69,70 . Additionally, as PFASs are not routinely measured in liver of polar bears from Svalbard, we estimated liver concentrations for this population based on concentrations reported for plasma 47 as reported elsewhere 9 . We converted PFAS concentrations from plasma to whole blood to liver using PFAS mass fractions determined for human plasma 94 , (haematocrit for polar bears is similar to humans) 95 and PFAS concentration ratios of whole blood/liver in polar bears 96 .…”
