State estimation and damping control for unmanned ground vehicles with semi-active suspension system

Abstract: The new type of transportation based on intelligent driverless vehicles will bring great changes to people’s travel modes and put forward higher requirements for the ride comfortability of vehicles. This paper presents a new observing algorithm to estimate the suspension states in real time and cooperate with sliding mode controller to improve the ride comfortability. First, the nonlinear model of an air suspension system equipped with a continuously controllable damper is described in detail. Then, this nonli… Show more

“…So, in order to improve the controllability and reduce the effect of uncertainty, the Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) was used as a primary controller. [17][18][19] Nevertheless, the main drawback of using SMC is its chattering effect 20 which can be avoided using a higher-order Sliding Mode Controller. 21 As a result, the second-order Sliding Mode Controller i.e., Super Twisting Sliding Mode Controller (STSMC) [22][23][24] was proposed for the present study to control the voltage supplied to the MR damper.…”
