Ride comfort analysis of driver seat using super twisting sliding mode controlled magnetorheological suspension system

Abstract: In order to improve the ride comfort of the driver, a higher-order Sliding Mode Controller was proposed in this study for a semiactive magnetorheological (MR) suspension system. The work is mainly focused on improving the ride comfort of the driver with simultaneous improvement in road holding capability of the vehicle and to study the effects of using Super Twisting Sliding Mode Controller (STSMC) in a quarter car with driver seat model. The modified Bouc-Wen model was simulated using MATLAB/Simulink software… Show more

“…The vibration of any frequency when transferred to the human body, it is called whole-body vibration (WBV) [73]. This may be the seat of the driver, moving trains' platform, a power tool or one of several other components [74,75]. This vibration is known to cause a variety of physiological problems, including musculoskeletal, circulatory, and nervous, both acute and chronic injury, and low back pain [68,69,72,76,77].…”

“…8 The magnetorheological damper is widely used in semi-active suspension systems due to its simple structure, fast response, high dynamic range, and low power cost. 9,10 Active control forces are generated directly by hydraulic or electromagnetic actuators. 11 Compared with semi-active control, active control has stronger adaptability.…”
