“…58% total COD removal was reached at a temperature of 15 ºC and HRT of 11 h for 120 days by Alvarez et al (2006). Kalogo et al (2001a) and Kalogo and M'Bassiguie (2001b) achieved a removal efficiency of up to 65% of COD in a self-inoculated reactor treating domestic wastewater.…”

“…Zhang et al, 2013;Zheng et al, 2012). The great complexity and instability of actual wastewater usually leads to much lower nitrogen removal efficiency than synthetic wastewater (Alvarez et al, 2006), which limits its application in actual wastewater treatment.…”

“…Nitrogen (as nitrate and urea) showed a positive influence on the process and should be considered during anaerobic digestion of tannery waste to improve biogas production. Also, temperature influence and type of reactors should be considered in the process since the tests were performed at 25 ± 2°C and batch conditions (Alvarez et al 2006;Zupančič and Jemec 2010). In addition, it may be possible to retain the effluent from this tannery digestion for fertilization purposes since the digest rate consisted of nutrient sources for crop production.…”
