Abstract: In patients with MEC contralateral ear should be systematically examined to detect early any abnormality, or to assess their evolution and take appropriate treatment.

“…One important consideration that is commonly disregarded is the fact that most children with cholesteatomas also suffer from bilateral Eustachian tube dysfunction. Studies have shown that approximately 50% of these children present with abnormalities of the contralateral ear, and 7–10% of them eventually develop contralateral cholesteatomas [ 53 , 54 ]. Thus, clinicians must be vigilant in their examinations and ensure continuous follow-up of the contralateral ear in order to detect even subtle otologic changes as early as possible.…”
