Staged operation to fontan increases the incidence of sinoatrial node dysfunction

Abstract: Morbidity and mortality of total cavopulmonary connection (modified Fontan procedure) may be decreased in many patients with single ventricle in whom the risk of surgery is high by performing the operations in a staged fashion. Each operative intervention, however, exposes the sinoatrial node region to risk of injury, and a multistaged approach may increase the risk of altered sinoatrial node function in these patients. The purpose of this study was to compare the prevalence of perioperative arrhythmias in pat… Show more

“…В структуре нарушений ритма преобладают дис-функции синусового узла, связанные с брадиа-ритмиями, а также наджелудочковые тахикардии (узловая ýктопическая, фибрилляция предсердий (ФП) (мерцательная ýктопическая тахикардия), внутрипредсердная тахикардия re-entry) [11][12][13][14].…”

“…In former reports, the cause of JET is thought to be a result of a combination of factors, including underlying heart disease, type of surgical procedure, hemodynamic instability, and electrolyte imbalance, namely hypomagnesemia (9)(10)(11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16)). Yet, mechanical trauma to conduction tissue in and around the AV node and bundle of his resulting in an irritable focus has been postulated by many authors as a significant contributing factor (8,17).…”
