Stability of Protein and Oil Content in Soybean across Dry and Normal Environments—A Case Study in Croatia

Abstract: Soybean is generally grown as a rainfed crop worldwide and very often is exposed to drought and high temperatures. The objectives of this study were to determine the performance and stability of 32 elite soybean genotypes for seed protein and oil contents across six dry and eight normal environments and to determine the influence of environment on the relationship between the two traits. In the combined ANOVA, genotypes (G), environments (E) and G × E were significant for both traits with protein content being… Show more

“…The antioxidant dipeptides PHF and YYL showed the maximum peptide rank scores of 0.93 and 0.59, respectively ( Table 4 ). Papain and bromelain mostly generate several active antioxidant peptides [ 2 , 14 ]. The toxicity of peptides derived from glycinin and conglycinin is one of the factors that can inhibit peptides’ development as functional food ingredients [ 31 , 32 ].…”

“…Soybean has been commercialized in nature and soy-derived products include textured soy, soymilk, tofu, and fermented products (miso, shoyo, and tempeh). Soybean is a very important commodity in several areas as a protein source [ 1 , 2 ]. Okara is first developed by the production of soymilk.…”

“…In addition, the interaction between genotype, environment, and management practices (G×E×M) substantially impacts seed protein and oil contents as well as EAAs concentration. For instance, water deficit has been reported to reduce seed protein content while increasing seed oil content 37 , 77 , 78 . In contrast, increased precipitation has been associated with reductions in both seed protein and oil contents 79 .…”
