Stability Analyses and Cable Bolt Support Design for A Deep Large-Span Stope at the Hongtoushan Mine, China

Abstract: This study presents stability analyses and a cable bolt support design for a typical deep large-span stope (1-1# stope) at the Hongtoushan mine in China, using an integrated empirical and numerical method. Detailed field work including quantification of joint distribution and surface quality, along with laboratory test on intact rock samples, were performed to obtain the geotechnical properties of rock masses. The rock mass of the 1-1# stope was characterized by rock mass rating (RMR), rock mass quality (Q), a… Show more

“…Analysis of the stability of mining excavation by numerical modeling is commonly used in the mining industry [24], [42]- [45]. In this analysis, we used the RS2 software developed by RocScience Inc. [46] to analyze the displacements and the safety factor (SF) around the excavation generated by the overhand cut and wire operating method chosen as the extraction method optimal for exploiting shallow-dip vein deposits hosted in poor quality rocks.…”

“…Moreover, it analyzes the sequences of mining methods according to the desired backfill. Currently, several research works use numerical modeling as a means of stability analysis in the mining industry context, such as [13]- [17]. Generally, the most used criteria for a geotechnical analysis evaluation are major principal stress, minor principal stress, and safety factor.…”
