Study and evaluation of the stability of underground mining method used in shallow-dip vein deposits hosted in poor quality rock

Abstract: Purpose. This article proposes to analyze and determine the mining design for shallow-dip deposits hosted in poor quality rock. Methods. We used the UBC tool to find the optimal exploitation method, the Rock mass rating (RMR) and Q-system (Q) to determine the optimal mining stope and the recommended rock support, the numerical modeling by RS2 software with a variety of geotechnical, geometrical, and technical conditions to analyze the evolution of the unstable zone width and the maximum total displacemen… Show more

“…An integral part of mining enterprises is the presence of a rock dump within the limits of the mine allotment, which is formed as a result of stockpiling the mine waste rocks from mining operations. Sustainable and efficient underground mining is achieved by selecting the optimal technological parameters of mining operations, which is impossible without taking into account the rock pressure impact [15,16]. With an increase in the depth of mining operations, the rock pressure increases, as a result of which the stability of the rock mass in underground mine workings decreases.…”

“…The authors have proposed selective mining of complex-structured ore deposits by a system with caving ore and overlying rocks [42][43][44][45][46][47]. The idea behind the option consists in mining the ore deposit in stages: I -extraction of ore reserves located between the hanging wall and the barren inclusion with its further drawing; II -drilling off the barren inclusion and moving it towards the hanging wall by blasting; III -breaking and drawing the remainder of ore on the footwall.…”

“…Various types of deposit geometrization are intended to solve mining problems both graphically and analytically. Determination of rock mass stability and its stress-strain state is quite an important problem solved with the help of geometrization methods [9]- [13]. Most of all, geometrization of geological forms and spatial distribution of rock mass characteristics relies upon information concerning subsoil arrangement of mining and geological indices.…”
