Springback Simulation of the Process Chain Press Line Forming and Roller Hemming Processes

Abstract: In recent years the process simulation of entire manufacturing chains in sheet metal forming has gained more ground on its way to be established in the validation of feasibility and the meeting of quality targets. Nowadays, especially the simulation of manufacturing automotive sheet metal components such as doors, hoods roofs etc., using the finite element analysis, belongs to state of the art in the development process of sheet metal components. The different joining technologies in the bodyshell work, such a… Show more

“…In case of the customers view, the quality appearance is determined by features like e.g. sharp design edges, minimal gaps, exact flush and a perfect shape [1,2,3,4]. Therefore a main focus in the car development is to realize the design demands in the car body manufacturing.…”

“…Therefore a main focus in the car development is to realize the design demands in the car body manufacturing. Especially hemming (roll-or table-top) is a challenging technology because it influences the quality in customers view [1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9]. Reaching the quality demands is a multivariable problem and only applicable if the process and its parameters are adjusted exactly.…”

“…Special purpose mapping tools were used to transfer information between the simulation models. In contrast, Zhang et al (2009) and Kästle et al (2013) utilised the consistent modelling strategy where the complete FE meshes and forming histories were transferred from the forming stage to the assembly stage without any mapping. In Paper I, a procedure for simulating the complete manufacturing process of a sheet metal assembly was presented that was based on the consistent modelling strategy, see to the model for the simulations of the assembly steps is that the forming process alters the properties of the blank.…”
