Within the scope of this study, seeds were collected from Gypsophila bicolor (Freyn&Sint.) Grossh plants in their natural environment and two different locations (Turkey). The research was carried out to determine the effects of paclobutrazol applied at different concentrations (0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5- and 2.0-ml L-1) on the seedling height control in the cotyledon leaf stage of G. bicolor. As a result of the study, it was determined that the decrease in the number of leaves per plant was determined at a dose of 1.2 mg L-1 paclobutrazol. The effect of paclobutrazol treatments on the seedling height control of G. bicolor changed according to the genotype as well as the dose. As the dose of paclobutrazol applied increased, the number of side branches decreased. It was determined that the seedling stem thickness increased in 47.71% with the dose of 2.0 mg L-1 when compared to the control treatment. The application in which the highest chlorophyll (SPAD) value was obtained from the application with a dose of 1.5 mg L-1. The chlorophyll value of G2 (Genotype 2 (ERZ) (G2)) was higher than that of G1 (Genotype 1 (VAN)). Seedling biomass of G1 increased in 15.87% in 1.2 mg L-1 treatment when compared to control. In the present study, darker green leaves were obtained from the highest dose of paclobutrazol, 2.0 mg L-1. As a general result, it was concluded that 1.5 mg L-1 dose of paclobutrazol was sufficient for both genotypes for plant height control in the seedling period.

Platycodon grandiflorus is an ornamental species that can be marketed as a potted flower; however, it has fragile and bending floral stems. Plant growth regulators, such as paclobutrazol, are compounds that reduce stem elongation, enabling the production of plants with a more compact formation. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of paclobutrazol on platycodon growth, in a greenhouse. A completely randomized blocks experimental design was used in a 4 × 5 factorial scheme, with four replicates. The treatments consisted of four varieties of ‘Astra Semi-Double’ platycodon (Blue, Lavender, Pink and White) and five paclobutrazol doses (0, 1.25, 2.5, 3.75 and 5.0 mg pot-1). The paclobutrazol application did not affect the stem diameter, number of leaves, days until anthesis, number of flowers or flower buds, and flower diameter. The shoot length, leaf area and shoot dry mass decreased with higher doses of the growth regulator. Lavender showed the highest values for shoot length, number of leaves, leaf area and shoot dry mass. Pink had the earliest anthesis, followed by Blue and White, whereas Lavender had the latest anthesis. The dose of 3.75 mg pot-1 of paclobutrazol efficiently controlled the growth and improved the visual quality of all the platycodon varieties.

The objective of this investigation was to study the effects of cycocel (CCC) and paclobutrazol (PBZ) on Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, L. to produce plants more compact, shorter, with a plurality of branches and inflorescences, flowering earlier, and to be more suitable as a pot plant. Different concentrations of CCC at 1000, 2000, and 3000 ppm and PBZ 50, 100, and 150 ppm were applied as foliar spray for once (after 45 days) or twice (after 45 and 60 days from planting). All treated plants were shorter with profuse branches specially the ones which have been treated with PBZ at 150 ppm twice (6.00 branches/ plant), and by the same treatment achieved the maximum number of inflorescences as it recorded 5.00 inflorescences/ plant. Sprayed plants with PBZ at 150 ppm twice gave the minimum number (125.33) of days to flowering. The total chlorophyll and carbohydrates content were increased in all sprayed plants, as it was 0.679 mg/ g FW for chlorophyll (PBZ 100 ppm twice) and 207.07 mg/ g DW for carbohydrates (PBZ 150 ppm twice). For compressed Kalanchoe plants with dark green leaves, abundant branches, abundant blooms and early blooms, paclobutrazol may be recommended at 150 ppm twice.
