Spirituality is considered to be an essential nature of human being that strengthens their purpose and mental power to do something for the betterment of many people. Spirituality is considered as a part of theology or other divine disciplines. Spirituality is becoming an important topic in Management and Economics, particularly in entrepreneurship. It is an animating force and vital principle that motivates entrepreneurs to run a business which is not merely for making profit but, enabling them to better serve people. A real spiritual entrepreneur is not just looking for their own benefit, but for the betterment of others. Any business which is beneficial and helpful to others will grow better and enjoy economic benefits. Spirituality is in line with the core principle of entrepreneurs, which is doing business to meet customers' need. One characteristic of spirituality is seeking to transcend the ego or their own self-centered interests. That is why spirituality is very important for entrepreneurs. It can be considered as a capital that has a number of core elements such as being driven by deep values, having a clear sense of purpose, and involving applied ethics in service.

Recent research suggests that there is considerable interest among scholars to integrate spirituality into the workplace. One gap in the literature pertains to management control in organisations with a collection of spiritually-oriented employees (a spiritually-charged organisation); our paper fills this gap. This conceptual paper employs a hermeneutic methodology by reviewing and interpreting spiritual literature, applying selected concepts to the modern workplace and designing a management control system to align with the values of such organisations. It conceptualises spirituality from the perspectives of the important concepts of Dharma and Nishkama Karma. This paper offers the position that the management control process would be different in a spiritually-charged organisation where employees are likely to be intrinsically motivated and the firm's values and goals would appeal to the moral values of its employees. We argue that workplace spirituality should be considered an important contingency factor for organisational management, in particular related to managing with the concept of Dharma in mind. Finally, we discuss transformational leadership practices, such as inspiring a shared vision, which are consistent with the nature of such organisations.

Spiritual values in leadership and the effects on organizational performance: a literature review

Spiritual leadership is an emerging area of study, with much research demonstrating the need for spirituality in the workplace. The spiritual literature reveals five values that are consistent with a spiritual individual. These include finding meaning, altruistic love, self-awareness, visioning, and authenticity. Certain values act as broad umbrellas that allow for study of sub values such as; faith, meditation, positive thinking and humility. This project reviews the literature to show how each of the five values affect leadership behaviour and how they increase subordinate performance and therefore produce more profit for an organization. The literature search revealed that each of the above values produced higher performance in subordinates either directly or through correlation. I identify twelve propositions that highlight the importance of spiritual leadership in the workplace. Furthermore, I demonstrate how a leader can cultivate the five values of a spiritual individual to become a spiritual leader.
