Spectrophotometric Determination of Sulfadoxine Drug use Cloud point and Flow injection Methods in Pharmaceutical Formulations

Abstract: New simple sensitive spectrophotometric methods are developed for the estimation of Sulfadoxine (SFD) in pure and pharmaceutical formulations. The first method includes a conversion primary amine to azo-dye by reacting sulfadoxine with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid followed by coupling with4-methoxyphenol in alkaline medium to obtain a stable reddish-orange colored dye at λmax495nm. Concentration ranges 0.25-60 μg / mL, obeyed Beer's law, correlation coefficient was 0.9996, molar absorptivity was 0.589×… Show more

“…General procedure (Diazotization) [6]: To prepare the azo dye, 1.30 g of SMZ (0.005 mol) was dissolved in 5 mL of distilled water and, to acidify the solution, 0.25 mL of 12 M hydrochloric acid was gradually added and shaken on ice (5 ˚C).In order to form diazonium salt, 0.35 g NaNO 2 dissolved in 5mL of water was then added to the mixture. On the other hand, 0.62 g of 4-methoxyphenol(0.005 mol) was prepared in an alkaline medium of 10% NaOH (0.5 mL) which was added drop-wise to the SMZ solution with continuous stirring and a temperature range of (0-5 ˚C).The prepared azo dye had a reddish-pink color with maximum absorbance at 495 nm.…”

“…Diazotization method is simple and inexpensive method. Azo dyes are very important dye families, containing the -N=N-band [6], and are the broadest group of dyes for their widespread applications in many areas of textile, medicine, and a variety of paints including artist's paints. It has excellent coloring properties that stabilize dyes in acidic and alkaline media, absorbs visible frequencies of light being colored compounds from the yellow to red range, in addition to color stability, and is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly compound.…”

“…1), is one of the mostly given semisynthetic penicillins for acute bacterial sinusitis and communityacquired pneumonia [1][2]. Several methods for AMX determination in pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids have been reported including HPLC [3][4][5], chemiluminescence [6][7][8], spectrofluorimetric [9], and flow-injection analysis [10][11][12][13][14].…”
