Spectrophotometric and Stability–Indicating High–Performance Liquid Chromatographic Determinations of Terbutaline Sulfate

Abstract: Spectrophotometric and stability-indicating HPLC procedures are described for determination of terbutaline sulfate in bulk powder and dosage form. The first procedure is based on diazo coupling of the phenolic groups of terbutaline sulfate with fast red B salt in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The colored compound developed in alkaline medium was measured at 475 nm. Different variables affecting the reaction were studied. Beer's Law is obeyed in the concentration range of 1-6 microg/mL. In the HPLC procedur… Show more

“…Regarding these spectrophotometric methods, iron has been determined using, e.g. phenanthroline [1], resorcylic acid [3], solochrome yellow 2GS [5], 8-hydoxyquinoline [6], di-2-pyridyl ketone benzoylhydrazone (DPKBH) [7], 1,10-phenanthroline [13], 3-(2-pyridyl)-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazine (PDT) [10] or cetylpyridinium chloride [8] as reagents. Some of the proposed methods are based on determination of one form of the iron and/or the total iron, concentration of the other analyte is then calculated by subtracting the concentration of the concentration found for the total iron.…”

“…It is also indicated for premature labour because of decreasing uterine contractility [2]. From the literature survey, TER was estimated in different dosage forms using spectrophotometric [17][18][19][20][21], spectrofluorometric [19,22] and electrochemical methods [23,24]. Chromatographic analysis of TER were performed using HPTLC [25], gas chromatography [26] as well as HPLC [20] in biological fluids [27] and in combined dosage forms [28] with stability indicating studies [29].…”
