Specific Circuit Training in Young Judokas

Abstract: Ten adolescent judokas performed circuit training consisting of six 40-s periods ofjudo exercises separated by 40 s (CT1:1), 120 s (CT1:3), or 200 s (CT1:5) of rest. Heart rate, blood lactate concentration, and the number of repetitions were recorded. Heart rate reached approximately 180 beats x min(-1) at the end of work periods, with slightly lower values for CT1:5. Blood lactate concentration increased until the 6th and 5th work periods for CT1:1 and CT1:3, respectively, whereas the peak value was lower and… Show more

“…These results confirm that our subjects have VO 2max levels similar to those of the elite. Other results, like the ones obtained by Baudry and Roux (2009) cannot be compared with ours because these researchers used a different testing procedure (their subjects were asked to cycle on an electronically braked ergometer and the results were; 53.3 ± 8.6 ml × kg −1 × min −1 ).…”

“…Previous studies have reported values ranging from 6.4 to 17.9 mmol × l −1 (Sikorski et al, 1987; Sanchis et al, 1991; Drigo et al, 1995; Heinisch, 1997; Serrano et al, 2001; Franchini et al, 2003; Sbriccoli et al, 2007; Braudry and Roux, 2009; Franchini et al, 2009b). Unfortunately, different testing procedures with different protocols (judo-specific circuit training exercises, special judo fitness test) have yielded a wide variety of results.…”

“…9.6s) and without grip (7.3s) suggesting that the effortpause can be analyzed in another dimension. These findings are informative to assist coaches and athletes regarding preparation for the tactical parameters encountered during elite judo competition (Baudry & Roux, 2009;Franchini et al, 2013). In this studies, the grip dispute time was 61%, ne-waza was 14% and pauses 25% of TMT.…”

“…Although the CG did not perform any resistance training, all participants continued to take part in their judo-specific training during the course of the study. The judo-specific training program was similar to those described by Fukuda et al (2013), Costa et al (2011), and Baudry et al (2009). Judo-specific training consisted of eight training sessions per week with each session lasting approximately two hours.…”
