“…1 They are popular building blocks in the design of functional surface coatings due to their versatility and simplicity to manipulate. 2,3 For example, these brushes have been employed as smart sensors [4][5][6] or to manage surface lubricity [7][8][9] and adherence. 10,11 Surface wettability is also tuned straightforwardly with polymer brushes, which has resulted in the development of moisture management systems 12 and self-cleaning surfaces.…”

“…The carriers varied with structure and topology based on ILs have been designed via amphiphilic linear polymers, i.e., from vinylimidazolium [ 20 ], imidazolium [ 21 ], pyridinium [ 22 ] or guanidinium–type IL [ 23 ]. Numerous reports have been devoted to the use of phosphorylcholine IL as a co-monomer to obtain linear block copolymers [ 24 , 25 ], whereas those with graft topology and containing ionic units, i.e., imidazolium [ 26 ] or choline-type IL [ 12 , 27 ] in the side chains, have been investigated with significantly lower attention. In the case of the ionic polymer structure, drugs can be carried in ionic form as counterions, i.e., nicotinic, salicylic, ampicillin, naproxen, ibuprofenate anions [ 28 , 29 , 30 ], as well as in nonionic form as loaded guests [ 31 ], or both forms as the systems for combined therapy [ 32 ].…”

“…Although many kinds of research studies have been performed on the lubrication properties of PMPC brushes, the realization of superlubricity is usually obtained between two brush-modified surfaces, and it is difficult to achieve superlubricity with only one surface modified by PMPC brushes, which would benefit the surfaces that were difficult to modify by chemical graft. Besides, although the effects of types of salt on PMPC brushes have also been explored, the lubricating performance of polyzwitterionic brushes in the presence of multivalent cations has remained unclear. ,, In this work, we performed the frictional force test with only one surface modified by PMPC brushes, finding that the frictional force was high in the initial stage for this asymmetric structure. However, the frictional force reduced gradually with an increase in the sliding, and finally, the superlubricity state was achieved after a running-in process.…”
